Nokia D1C Android Smartphone Spotted on GeekBench, Revealing Specifications

We all know - and most of us are eagerly awaiting - Nokia's upcoming return to the smartphone market. In August, a report cited a Nokia executive to claim the company would launch four Android-based devices in the fourth quarter of 2016. Since then, a number of contradictory rumours have surfaced regarding the name and features of the upcoming devices. In late August, two Nokia-branded Android devices - Nokia 5320 and Nokia 1490 - were spotted on GeekBench. Now, a new Nokia device, named D1C, has made its way to the benchmark site.

While the Nokia 5320 is touted to be a high-end device with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 powering it, the D1C appears to be in the mid-range level. The website mentions a Qualcomm octa-core processor powering the handset clocked at 1.4GHz with Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The device is likely to run Android 7.0 Nougat according to the listing.

GeekBench gave the D1C a score of 656 single-core performance and 3120 in multi-score performance which is decent for a mid-range device. Being a benchmark page, the information on the device is still limited.

Nokia's comeback has been highly anticipated since May when the Finnish company granted HMD Global the exclusive license to create Nokia-branded Android mobile phones and tablets for the next 10 years.

Nokia has already launched an Android-powered device with the N1 tablet, which was received positively by the public, as well as the Z Launcher for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. However, Nokia will be aiming to make a bigger splash with its upcoming smartphones.

With the D1C, Nokia is now expected to launch at least three smartphones before the year ends with no information yet on when the Finnish company is likely to hold the launch event.

Jio 4G Welcome Offer likely to be extended till March 2017

Good news for all Reliance Jio 4G Welcome Offer subscribers – the free offer which was slated to come to an end by December 3 is likely to be extended to March 2017.

Last week, there were reports that the Reliance Jio Welcome Offer which offers subscribers unlimited 4G data, voice call and free roaming would come to an end on December 3 and not December 31 as it was announced during the launch.

However, latest reports, though it cannot be confirmed at the time of filing of this story, suggest that the Welcome Offer could be extended up to March 2017 – a welcome news for subscribers.

According to a report, Reliance Jio has informed analysts that it may extend free data and voice calls services till March 2017.

Under the Jio Welcome Offer, Reliance offers 4GB of 4G data on a daily basis with unlimited 4G night data between 2 am – 4 am.

However, what is interesting is that, as per TRAI rules, a telecom service provider cannot give free services for more than 90 days.

Hence, the regulator had cut short the Reliance Jio offer to December 3 from December 31.

But considering the recent press statement of Reliance Jio's head of strategy and planning, Anshuman Thakur, it is very much likely that the company could extend the offer till March 2017.

He had said, "We have told Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and government that customers have faced issues with regard to the quality of service due to the interconnection congestion and they have not been able to enjoy the services that they deserve and what we want to deliver to them. And till we are in a position where we can deliver the quality of service as desired by the Jio management, it will be unfair to charge the customer."

Transparent Smartphones

Inventors, Jung Won Seo, Jae-Woo Park, Keong Su Lim, Ji-Hwan Yang and Sang Jung Kang, who are scientists at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, have created the world's first transparent computer chip.

The chip, known as (TRRAM) or transparent resistive random access memory, is similar to existing chips known as (CMOS) or metal-oxide semiconductor memory, which we use in new electronics.

The difference is that TRRAM is completely clear and transparent. What is the benefit of having transparency?

"It is a new milestone of transparent electronic systems," says Jung Won Seo. "By integrating TRRAM with other transparent electronic components, we can create a total see-through embedded electronic systems."

The technology could enable the windows or mirrors in your home to be used as computer monitors and television screens.

This technology is expected to be available within 3 to 4 years.

The Moto Z Force, like the Moto X Force, comes with Moto ShatterShield technology for its display, which the company says will not crack or shatter. It is nearly identical to the Moto Z otherwise, except for the the larger 3500mAh battery, which is rated to provide up to 40 hours of battery life. With TurboPower charging, it is said to provide 15 hours of battery life in just a 15-minute charge. It also bears a 21-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and laser autofocus.

The Moto Z Play features a 5.5-inch full-HD Super Amoled screen, and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It also has a 3510mAh battery, a 16-megapixel primary camera, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera.

Planet Nine - the undiscovered one at the edge of our solar system -- appears to be responsible for the unusual tilt of the Sun, say researchers.

Planet Nine was predicted by Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown from California Institute of Technology's (Caltech) in January this year.

The large and distant planet may be adding a wobble to the solar system, giving the appearance that the Sun is tilted slightly.

"Because Planet Nine is so massive and has an orbit tilted compared to the other planets, the solar system has no choice but to slowly twist out of alignment," said Elizabeth Bailey, graduate student at Caltech and lead author of a study announcing the discovery.

All of the planets orbit in a flat plane with respect to the Sun, roughly within a couple degrees of each other.

That plane, however, rotates at a six-degree tilt with respect to the Sun-giving the appearance that the Sun itself is cocked off at an angle.

Brown and Batygin's discovery of evidence that the Sun is orbited by an as-yet-unseen planet - that is about 10 times the size of Earth with an orbit that is about 20 times farther from the Sun on average than Neptune's - changes the physics.

Planet Nine, based on their calculations, appears to orbit at about 30 degrees off from the other planets' orbital plane, influencing the orbit of a large population of objects in the Kuiper Belt.

"Every time we look carefully, we continue to find that Planet Nine explains something about the solar system that had long been a mystery," added Batygin, assistant professor of planetary science.
