iPhone 6 / iPhone 6s, Features, specifications and release dates

A good reason to speculate early about the

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s

is that the latest release, iPhone 5 (and the upcoming iPhone 5s) does not carry many innovations apart from reduction in thickness and weight. In addition, Apple is under intense pressure from competitors, mainly Samsung to release sooner then they may wish for.

iPhone 6 concept design released
by Apple Inc. back in 2011
Market-speculation includes a wide range of topics. A more elegant overall design, curved screen, p-Si LCD screen technology, inclusion of a projector, wireless charging, expanded storage, improved antenna, new display glass technology and an edge-to-edge screen.

We expect iPhone 6 / 6s will have all elegance and attraction that have characterized all previous iPhones. A larger display surface, thinner body and lighter weight.

The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6s are rumored to feature a radical curved screen. This design rumor appears to have originated because Apple reportedly asked lens technology companies about the equipments needed for polishing curved glass.

The much talked about feature, the p-Si LCD screen seems to have created a lot of unnecessary confusion. Developed by Sharp, p-Si LCD is the next generation LCD. p-Si refers to poly Silicon Liquid Crystal Display and it allows monolithic integration, which means that the circuits powering the screen are integrated directly into it. As a result, the screen can be lighter, thinner and use less battery-power.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s design concept
It is widely assumed that the iPhone 6 will have a built-in / integrated projector allowing theuser to project photos and videos on a walls and other flat surface. This is a highly valued capability by many, even though the projection distance may be limited.

There ismuch speculation that the iPhone 6 will get a 128 GB storage capaxity. Currently, existing iPhones are available with 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage space. Additionally, analysts expect Apple may introduce an external storage option (memory card) of up to 1TB.

The new iPhone 6 will most probably have the ability to be charged wireless using inductive charging, an advanced form of electromagnetic technology. Solar charging is another possibility. With this new technology, Apple will follow in the footsteps of Nokia, which was the first smartphone producer to incorporate wireless charging in their Nokia Lumia 920.
The Japanese daily Nikkan has reported that the iPhone 6 will use a new, tough screen material called Gorilla Glass. The new material allows the phone to be lighter and thinner while making it more durable. This will will also give a small advantage in battery consumption.

The 6th generation iPhone is widely expected to bear an improved antenna. This seems to be linked to the fiasco associated with the wrap-around antenna used in the iPhone 4. Apple will not come up with an entire new antenna design but rather going to improve on the existing design as used in the iPhone 4s and 5.

The new iPhone6 is expected to have a revolutionary edge-to-edge screen. These rumours come from the fact that all of the main competitors have much bigger screens. The iPhone 6 is likely to have a 3.7" screen, moving it on par with competiting models on the market.

It is also expected that Apple will remove the Home Button from the body making way for added screen-space.

Given the short life-cycle of iPhones arising from itsrate of new product launches, it's good to remark that several options are available for users to trade-in an existing unit and upgrade to a newer model. For example, Apple will accept working phones by mail and send users a gift card reflecting the value of it as assessed by Apple.

Summing-up, the iPhone is likely to continue asone of the global leaders in the smartphone market. Based upon the above list the iPhone 6 expected features and specifications are leading edge improvements and unlikely to disappoint the average consumer.

A focus on Square, mobile payments provider; partnership with Starbycks

As mobile payments are getting increasingly popular, today we will bring you a little article on Square, the mobile payment provider that allows you to make on-demand payments and receive payments (even from Credit Cards) using iPhone, Android and Samsung's bada OS (Tizen).

Square offers three main products:
  • Square Card Reader, accepting payments on your smart-device
  • Square Register, turing your tablet, phablet or smartphone into a digital cash-register
  • Square Wallet, make payments and keep a digital cash-account, easily managed from your smart device
Square is especially useful to small entrepreneurs allowing them to accept clients' payments easily, fast and instantly without a lot of extra costs and hassle. But since its launch, we are seeing many larger shops and franchise-chains picking up on this new trend as well, including over 74,000 Starbucks shops US-wide.

In a sit-down with a select group of journalists, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz and Square CEO Jack Dorsey talked about what the partnership means for both companies, and how it has the potential to revolutionize payments for customers. Both stressed that Starbucks current register system is not going anywhere for now but adding Square to the mix adds an entire new way of easy payments.

The Starbucks shops will all use iPads equipped with a Square dongle and a merchand app. The dongle allows Credit Card swipes for direct payments by customers. Square is integrated into the existing digital register software used by Starbucks. Customer will now have a choice to pay either by credit card, cash or using their Square waller on their smartphone, tablet or phablet.

Global smart-phones users to surpass 1 billion

Only 5 summers after the release of the first iPhone, there are now over a billion smartphone users on this planet. Research and consulting firm Strategy Analytics said the number of users topped one billion in the third quarter of 2012, with 1 out of every 7 people worldwide keeping one a smartphone in their pocket.

The first smartphone, the Nokia Communicator (picture on the right), came out in 1996, but demand for the devices exploded after the release of Apple's iPhone in 2007. "By the third quarter of 2011, we estimate there were 708 million smartphones in global market. After a further year of upswing demand, the number of smartphones in use worldwide reached 1,038 billion units and the number of users is widely expected to double to two billion in less than three years.

"Smartphone penetration is still relatively low, most of the world doesn't yet own a smartphone and there remains a huge opportunity for future growth, particularly in emerging markets such as China and Africa.

Real-time translation of phone conversations launched in Japan

Japan's biggest mobile service provider NTT DoCoMo revealed on Monday that it launched a real-time phone translation service letting people chat over the phone in several different languages while their conversations are translated in real-time. The innovative service will give 2-way voice and text readouts of conversations between Japanese speakers and those talking in English, Chinese or Korean with a few seconds delay to allow the system to process the data.

"Hanashite Honyaku" will be a free application that can be used on Android, iPhone and Samsung's bada OS. Consumers will also be able to call land lines using the same app. Woice-to-text readouts will be available in French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Thai in the upcoming weeks as well.

"We hope that with this application, our subscribers will be able to widen the range of their communication," an NTT DoCoMo spokeswoman said. However, she conceded the service does not offer perfect translations and has trouble deciphering some dialects, but much is being done to improve the service step-by-step. DoCoMo also said it has launched a separate service that lets users translate menus and signage using the smartphone camera.

iPhone 6 release, features and specs

Apple iPhone 6 release and features
As Im writing this, its barely a month since Apple released itsiPhone 5, and yet were already looking forward to all the new stuff  Apple will put into the iPhone 6.
A newly released patent, filed in March 2012, shows a truckload of new technologies currently being developed up in Apples R&D labs for new iDevices, including tactile keyboard, laser microphone, laserspeaker, and flexible display.

iPhone 6 concept design prototype
This is how we anticipate the new
iPhone 6 will look like.
Top feature: a transparent screen
All of these new features will reportedly work in line to give the user a dynamic iPhone 6 experience that aligns with the users needs: Flexible displays allow for more comfortable holding and typing, while the highly-advanced tactile screen creates buttons when needed so the user can feel the letters as they type, or touch the topography on an Apple map.
By placing an array of piezoelectric actuators below the display and activating them on demand for tactile feedback this way you have a perfectly smooth surface when you browse the net or read your email. Call up a keyboard, and actuators pop up and now you can feel the letters as you type.

Apple's iPhone6 concept
design patent drawing
Tactile display technology, which is useful for using your smart-phone without looking at it, has been something Apple has long been interested in: On May 7, Apple published a patent for advanced haptics using a flexible OLED screen, which would allow users to physically interact with their content by touching it an experience accomplished with sensors and actuators working simultaneously.

Apple's multi-tiered system is extremely sophisticated: Using several layers of elastic screens stacked on top of each other, Apple's screen can produce 3D buttons or objects to interact with, as well as give texture to images, like topographical maps, but only when they're needed.

Tactile display technology to be
used in the new iPhone 6
Apple's haptic system can respond to as well as create different types of actions, including vibration, net displacement, bending, deforming, or any one combination of those elements. Pretty exciting huh?

Can't wait for the iPhone 6? Keep checking this blog regularly, we will be coming out with a more detailed iPhone 6 specs, features and prices article very soon!

oxps to xps converter: converting software

Did you try Microsoft Windows 8 and/or Microsoft Office 2013? In both of them file extensions for the files printed to the Virtual Microsoft XPS Document Witer printer (such a mouth full!) changed to .oxps (from the original .xps). Microsoft has changed the common extension to accomodate the integration of 4-character file extensions. Earlier we could already notice the change of .doc to .docx. With the following nifty little application you will be able to easily convert your .oxps and .xps files to one another format. For Windows 7, download the 32-bit version here and the 64-bit version here. For Windows 8, download the 64-bit version here.

NFC paystation trending in 2013

NFC stands for Near F Field Communication and in short explaination it means that smart devices are able to communicate with each other when there are in close proximity. In 2013 this will especially become a big hit because many retailers will be offered the chance to install NFC paystation's, which basically allows customers to pay with their smart-phone. In many cases this will gradually replace actual payment counters. Nearly all new smart-phone releases from the end of 2012 onwards will be equipped with NFC-chips.

2013, the year of the Phablets

The size of the Phablet (LG model)
You may hear this new buzz-word for the first time as you are reading this article, but the term Phablet is one that will become one of the biggest hits in 2013. A Phablet is a device that fills the gap between smartphone and tablet. Think for instance of the Samsung Galaxy Note and the upcoming Apple iPad Mini. Size-wise they are slightly larger then a conventional smart-phone, and somewhat smaller then a conventional tablet. In 2013 a wide selection of phablet-models will start to see the daylight, produced by many different brands. So start getting used to the word PHABLET, it will surely become one of the biggest trends in 2013!

Samsung Galaxy S4 announced

Samsung announced today the release of the all new Samsung Galaxy S4 in the summer of 2013. The latest model of the best sold smart-phone in the world will come with a 32GB to 128GB internal memory, smart voice commands, 3D OLED display and a larger then ever before screen size. Prices are expected to range between US$ 850 and US$ 1150. Fruthermore, insiders tell us that the Galaxy S4 will be available both in Google Android and Microsoft Windows Mobile versions.
A choice that Samsung users did not have before. We are waiting to get our hands on the first insider video's of the new SIV, but in the meantime, here are a few pictures we have been able to get.
Hot off the release of Apple's iPhone 5, it seems that Samsung didn't want to loose the atte attention and chose to announce the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4 early on. And although the SIII was release barely a few months ago, we are now already anxiously awaiting the coming of this new masterpiece smart-phone from the Korean market-leader.

It will have a quad-core Exynos processor, LTE compatible radio and maybe even a flexible screen which won't actually make the phone flexible but will dramatixally reducer the thickness of the device. nother interesting rumour is that the screen might get a bump from 4.8 to 5 inches. The device wont be any bigger, though, which means we might get the button free face we were hoping the Galaxy SIII would have.
